COVID-19 Updates

HTS-Union/Hotels Union has signed an MoU with the 10 hotels under the Speke Group of Hotels on the terms and conditions of how to manage and mitigate the effects of COVID 19 to the employees of the 10 hotels. The signing was done at Crane Chambers
A similar MoU was also signed with The Sheraton Kampala Hotel on the same day

About us

Uganda Hotels, Food, Tourism, Supermarkets and Allied Workers' Union (HTS-Union) like any other labour union, exists by Article 29 1.(e) and 40 3. (a), (b), (c) and (d) of the constitution of the republic of uganda as amended 2017 among relevant labour laws.
HTS Union as it is called now was formed in 1957 at Lake Victoria Hotel Entebbe and first registered in 1959 as Trade Union No. 2 under its first name, Uganda Hotels and Domestic Workers’ Union. The union was formed for the main purpose and/or function of advancing, advocating, promoting, defending and protecting the social-economic interests of the workers inthe sector of jurisdiction.

Aims & Objectives

These and more are some of the major aims and objectives of Uganda Hotels, Food, Tourism, Supermarkets and Allied workers' union.

Protect members' interests

To regulate wages and conditions of its members and Generally to protect the interests of the members.

Investment & Saving

To promote, aid and encourage establishment of savings and credit cooperative societies, either at branch or National level as may be decided upon by the relevant organs of the Union.

Sales and Trading

To promote, aid and encourage viable economic projects to improve and strengthen the Union financial base.

4.

Educational programmes

Generally to promote the social economic interests and educational programmes of the members.

5.

Co-operation

To co-operate with other Organizations on matters of common interest with a view to taking common action when necessary or desirable.

6.

Acquire Assets & Commodities

To acquire either by purchase, lease, or otherwise any moveable, immoveable property or other assets and to sell, to let, to mortgage, to charge or otherwise deal with or dispose off the same.

All workers employed in the Hotels, Resorts, Lodges, Motels, Inns, Guests Houses, Restaurants, Bars, Pubs, Members Clubs, Health Clubs, Cafes, Bakeries, Confectionaries, Supermarkets, Food Processing Plants, Meat Packers, National Parks, Conservation Areas, Sanctuaries, Tour Companies, Golf Courses, and Domestic Workers.

The National Headquarters of the Union is situated in Kampala, Plot 477, Ssekabaka Kintu Road,Wakaliga,Rubaga. Postal address is P.O. Box 3799, Kampala.

How do you engage workers from different sectors?

Collective bargaining which is one of our core mandate as one of the day-to-day function, is adequately done. We indeed continuously engage individual and group employers in our Sector to negotiate new Collective Agreements and review existing Agreements for the working terms and conditions of employment with several employers all times.

We have a big outreach across Uganda.
Northern Region we have an office in Gulu
